Pestova/Meyer Piano Duo

Tribute to John Cage

In 2012, The Pestova/Meyer piano duo will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of John Cage with a program designed around his works for two prepared pianos and the toy piano. Repertoire for this intimate instrument has grown and evolved since Cage’s pioneering Suite for Toy Piano. Associated with nostalgic and colourful glimpses of childhood, it has enjoyed a coming of age in recent years, with several prominent composers of the younger generation writing new works specifically with the toy piano in mind.
We are proud to present new pieces by David Smooke (US), Reza Namavar and Jorrit Dijkstra (The Netherlands) and Fabian Svensson (Sweden) written for two toy pianos, including three world premieres.
